Meditative and cyclic, lo-tech and detailed, Vivarium is a slow-unfolding of sound, movement and gardening - a cohabitation of lives persisting in overlooked environments. Visitors enter an unusual location as it is occupied and transformed by the performers. They bend to resident matter and beings. Paige Culley and Lucy M. May nudge at the boundaries of the site, whispering, unfolding and composting hidden spaces with their postures and queer dances. They oscillate their limbs and torsos like heliotropic plants, metamorphic Coleoptera, or waggling bees. Patrick Conan composes live with digital and acoustic instruments, playing field recordings and oscillating tones. He envelopes the space in a subtle sonic bubble. Scenographer Noémie Avidar creates a pop-up garden from found-objects, magnifying what is easily ignored. The materials she brings colonise and fertilize the ground. She exploits elements found on site. The audience is invited to slow down and look closer.
