  • When Roger Sinha arrived in Saskatoon Saskatchewan in 68, he was not welcomed with open arms but with closed fists. From that experience was born his solo piece Burning Skin in 1992, a work about racial prejudice. Left Hook, Right Jab and other musical notes is not specifically about racial prejudice but is about intolerance and rejection with the violence that often accompanies it. It traces many experiences Roger Sinha had in his early years, his training in martial arts, his experiences in ballet, his desire to learn more about his culture through Indian dance and how contemporary dance has shaped his life. Created for Winnipeg's Contemporary Dancers in 2011, this work is perhaps the most personal and most autobiographical Sinha from Burning Skin (1992). Through martial arts, contemporary dance and Indian dance, the piece explores the themes of bullying and its emotional damages, harassment and intolerance in the world of children and adolescents, with humor and derision.
