tiger princess dance projects (tpdp) was founded in 1995 and has built a repertoire of choreography that has toured across Canada and to Europe and Asia. The soul of the company is its Artistic Director, Yvonne Ng who is guided by a desire is to communicate on an intimate level with the audience and to share her perspective and this manifests through the creation and development of her works. She takes her body as the subject and a starting place, drawing from the closest experience of matter that she will ever have - the insides of herself - the interior landscapes of the self. She treats the body not as an object but as a place in making works that enclose the space of a particular body to identify a condition common to all human beings.
“As an artist, I braid my South East Asian/Chinese heritage with my adopted Canadian culture: The strength and vitality of the company flows from this diversity. I believe that I have a responsibility as an artist to bear witness to society and tell the stories of our time. I continually question my place in society and create work that states or seeks to stake my place.” —Yvonne Ng
